What was happening here is there was a suspected IED. The ordinance disposal guys put a charge on it, with time fuse. The dog wandered in there after they had set the fuse, which can’t be stopped at that point. After the charge goes off you see the guy step out of the cougar. No one deliberately blew up the dog. These guys laughing at that isn’t pretty, but it’s also a by product of war. Russians in Chechenya, which I witnessed first hand, were way, way worse than any Americans I’ve ever seen.

This is not in the same scope as any human executions, I have a great deal of respect for people that are in the war zone, both soldiers and civilians. I have lived in the middle Eastern war zones and am very aware of the stresses.
The entire situation brings out things in people that they may never have done otherwise. People, including myself, get affected when an animal gets hurt, maybe even more so than when something happens to a human, only because we do see animals as innocent and helpless in the situation. With that said, I believe it is wrong to find humor in the taking of a life, even if it is a dogs life.. I don’t know how many dogs I killed while I was in Iraq. Most dogs over there are not viewed as animals here in the states are.
